He is not that snarky but he is funny and smart like Sheldon) that I think Sheldon has things in common and may actually get along with! Adrian Monk. He is intelligent, a bit socially awkward and I'm sure he and Sheldon will be in perfect understanding of - and I guess even enjoying - each other's germphobia, clean/neat-freakiness and other ocd tendencies!

Yes and lovable to boot. People enjoy the odd characters on sitcoms the most because they are different but TPTB seems determined to tell us 'different' must be fixed. I was pleased they didn't take Sheldon's need for closure away and that episode ended with him telling Penny he loved her. But since then it's been a slow walk off a cliff.
The thing I miss most about Sheldon is not his quirks, it's his brain. The Infinite Sheldon mind. Why did they have to take that away?

Lovable indeed!
Yeah, it's a good thing the writers and creators of iconic and/or interesting characters like Sherlock Holmes and Monk actually loved, understood and cared about their own creations enough to never break their spirits in the name of character development. Just imagine how things would be if The Big Bang Theory writers wrote those characters: I bet Holmes would start failing at solving the cases, would get mocked as someone who had the illusion of being smart and in the last book, he would get married and have children, and Monk would suddenly get cured of his OCD and would get a girlfriend, and both Holmes and Monk would "grow up" and start learning that they needed to put more care and attention into their social lives rather than into their work and careers. *shudder*

P.S.
I miss Monk. Haven't watched the series or even an episode in ages. A friend has promised to lend me his Monk DVDs the next time he visits. So, Yay!

Monk getting over his OCD? God no!

I really don't know why they messed around with Sheldon. They could have done all the things they wanted with him, without making him so pathetic. He could have had a platonic relationship with another weirdo and never taken it to sex. Or developed a relationship with someone who was into role playing which did. There was no need for this babysitter style relationship with a character who started off much worse than him and now seems to think he's beneath her.
The dreaded kiss finally happened (a kiss initiated by Sheldon - S7,E15). Do you mark this as the official death of Homo Novus? Or did the official death happen long time ago in your eyes? Or are more horrible, OOC, unnecessary changes yet to happen to him that will make this Kiss look like nothing in comparison?

Also, what does this kiss mean for Sheldon on a character level? Are the writers telling us that Sheldon has had a "deal" all this time and has been lying about it and not acting on it for some unknown reason?? Can this be peer pressure finally making Sheldon give in? Has he had a change of heart about (touching) Amy? Or is Amy's putting the drug in his tea on a daily basis finally showing its effects?!!

The destruction of Homo-Novus is most certainly not over remember the weiters are taking "baby steps" with Sheldon. I believe much much WORSE will come upon Sheldon during the following three seasons to the point where yes the train kiss will be seen as nothing as well as him becoming even more unrecognizable than he is now. And I believe his deal was taken out of the gang peer pressuring him to fit in with them because they saw it as an opportunity on him achieving 'normal-ness'. Let's face it the gang has NEVER liked him for who he is they believe that if he had romance in his life it'd be 'better' for him. They didn't think it as acceptable for him to friends with a woman who shared the same interests am him. *rolls eyes* Sheldon was very capable of seeing AFF in a platonic light and I think he was just intruiged by her intelligence and cunning cleverness and nothing more than that. But now? I don't even know what he sees in her anymore after the way she's been treating him lately. It doesn't feel as if he has any strong her feelings for her....YET because we all know its coming soon.

I believe he's always had a deal but never thought it to be of much importance since it was something he could handle himself (he IS a semi-pro) and not have a relationship be a distraction for that. His sole purpose and attention was in his work but Amy is just taking him away from that and now he's more interested in trains, Fun with Flags, hacky sack, slapstick gags/jokes, and even more trains! He's been acting like a youngster ever since she came and not in a fun humorous way either, like someone on here already mentioned before he's more childish than childlike. He doesn't even spout off anymore theoretical theories or fun facts any longer!

Having a GF was the LAST thing on this guy's mind now all of a sudden it's not? The fuck? I used to think he didn't want to lose Amy's friendship to someone else but how I don't even know anymore. One episode he treats her like crap and gets irritated with her smothering yet he doesn't want her to leave him...........really now? Another three more seasons of this cliche BS? They might as well deflower him by the end of this season!

Who IS this Monk? Is he worth checking out?

He treats her like a contractual obligation, which she is. Sheldon doesn't see any romantic ties to her, even with that bs kiss. He didn't want to share a room with her on this sham of a trip and he constantly points out that she is pressuring him about every facet of their BF/GF relationship. Sheldon's pet names for her are Flaky and Gollum! And those shamy drones think this is "growth"

This Sheldon is just a tap-dancing puppet for the ratings monster.Morlock

The assassination of Homo Novus is the most heartbreaking thing on this show. As Gripe said #RIPSheldon Sad
I agree with this:

I don't know what's going on anymore either. I just don't know how to justify and to make sense of this huge shift in the character. Prior to this kiss, Sheldon had almost consistently been portrayed as asexual and as someone uninterested in - and even repulsed by - sex, touch and romance. In this episode, while I agree that he WAS pushed to it, he initiates a kiss with Amy, lingers on and seems to have enjoyed it. This is a huge change from the Sheldon they have been showing to us since the beginning of the show up to this kiss.

The act - and its aftermath - was OOC and confusing, to me anyway. Jim was beautiful though. That was the only good thing about it.
Dr. Sheldon Cooper RIP. You've now become Dennis Kim.
