It does seem like the writers are stuck in some 'oedipus complex paradigm', at least with three of the male characters. They obviously try to give us some background info, as to why the guys are defined by their relationships with their mothers. Sheldon regresses to childhood when a couple close to him argue; and in this episode he tries to ensure that L and Dr Steph, don't fail, like his parents did. I think Sheldon's world changed completely; when his father left, but also because of Mary's religious rebirth. The boy is supposed to move from the mother's influence, to the father's, as another rite of passage. Stuck in the mother's religious paradigm with no male influence(except Spock), means that part of Sheldon remains stuck at that time in his life.

I think it's a bit more than that. I believe that when you remove Sheldon's routines and other behaviors that were built up over years of solitude in a world he didn't understand what remains is an 11-year-old boy. And that is who we've seen over the past couple of seasons. And I think that Amy Farrah Fowler is essentially a pedophile taking advantage of him. And despite their vaunted intelligence, neither of them are mature enough emotionally to realize this. Their friends, however, are just satisfied that Sheldon isn't bothering them as much and are able to submerge themselves in their own dysfunctional relationships, letting the strange lady do whatever she wants to their friend.
Sheldon has never had a peer group - accelerated schooling would have left him out of step with everyone, where academic and social development failed to coincide. He's had to learn socialisation from observation, and he's ended up with the worst set of people to learn from. And yeah, AFF is taking full advantage of this. I wonder how many 'computer dates' she went through before she found a suitably vulnerable and malleable subject.
None! Yes devilbk, virtually all of Sheldon's behaviour and quirks, are designed to shield him from reality, people, and change. Was it the change in his family that made him fear it! I see her more as a spider, slowly building a web around him, and he was literally to naive to realise.
I believe that Sheldon's erection of barriers predated his father's demise, which I believe happened while he was away.
The alternative viewpoint is that Sheldon superglued the lid on the jar of white asparagus, just to mess with leonard's head, 'it's pre-loosened'.. But he wouldn't do that would he![Image: tbbt.png]
Prompted half by Louise's critique of Howard's hairstyles, born of meticulous character study, and half by the frankly insane piffle you see everywhere about Penny's hair destroying the show - A brief comparison of Sheldonic hairstyles. You may notice a shift in facial expressions and general intelligence as the silliness of the haircut exerts its influence.

Yes.

And you look like a tit.

(Incidentally, the Skullcap Vs Hitler-hair hairstyle neatly divides Vintage Sheldon and New!Sheldon as well, so it works effectively as a spotter's guide.)

I was thinking about, why we're attracted to characters. Do we see ourselves in them, or are they giving us something. I recognise alot of Sheldon's traits, so I think my laugh goes from; embarrassed to 'he made that funny'. I also got a lot from Spock, I watch humanity, and say' fascinating', while distancing myself. Zen Spock.[Image: jim-parsons-by-milos-paripovic.jpg]
