To not watch on Thursdays is almost a foreign concept at the moment. Maybe ill watch the classic episodes on tbs and screen the new show on the weekends. Its a start.

God the yo-yo effect with the Shamy would be soo damn annoying. if Lenny is an example of anything, the fans will eventually get annoyed by it, and boycottDodgy

I watch the classic eps if there's nothing else on, whine right the way through it to my mother about what happened to the show (she agrees) and completely blank the new eps.

I'll probably start watching my seasons 1-4 DVD's once the show is fully concluded and pretend that seasons 4-10(?) never even existed. I don't remember why I even bought season 4 in the first place because that was when the bastard child that is Amy ruined everything for me.

*seasons 4-18.

JK but I honestly wouldn't be surprised.

Yeah, I find it difficult to watch older episodes, knowing what is in store for the poor things. Cherry-pick the few favoured scenes, I guess, and try to mentally discard the rest.

There are ABSOLUTELY NO "classic" moments in the episodes now. I know this because the 4 episodes from season 7 I HAVE seen, along with the most of season 6, went into my eyes and out of my ears straight away. I couldn't paraphrase a nugget of genius from these seasons if I tried. I'll probably be more able to ignore the existence of seasons 5-806 once the show has finished for good...

It's not just Sheldon who's been lost but all the characters had funnier lines back then and the writers worked harder on the subplots. Almost every episode had one strong main story and (if they even bothered with a second plot) it was fully fleshed out and just as good.

They put so much care into what they were doing and there was a real sense of a writing team who were having fun with their creation. Now the show just seems like a ball and chain around their creative necks. They must enjoy the money but all this gushing over the 'sentimental' moments is just blatant lying because the product is poor compared to what we know they are capable of. They are singing the praises of something they no longer have love for because it's making them stinking rich. Anyone with an ounce of creativity can see this a mile off.

What I find the most frustrating is this insistence by others that when I say the later seasons suck it means that I'm against the whole concept of change which is far from the truth. What I'm against is poorly written change. Personally I like dramadies but in this instance TBBT wasn't conceived or presented as a dramady in the early seasons, the proof of it being how they handled a majorly sensitive topic like the Arctic and just joked it off. Now they're trying to morph the show with its sentimental scenes but they don't work because the comedic values around them are sub par (non-existent?) and the scenes themselves are 'puppy dog eyes' rather than something with meat to them. What ultimately doesn't seem to penetrate others is that I'd be ranting over the show's downfall even if canon was Shenny because it's the quality of the program that's collapsed. Sock
That's one of the most irritating things about the main forums. I wonder how long it will be before the criticisms we have start to permeate the media and mainstream audience. It can't last forever, someone will say something about the decline eventually.

Very well put Wellplayed. I also like dramadies but showing bad or forced Ships is not really drama to me. Having no surprises and having everything feeling settled already is not drama to me. Watching Sheldon forced into changes is not growth.

I totally agree with you about the change in the characters. The problem isn't that they grew or evolved, the problem is that they just jettisoned some of their core characteristics because those characteristics became bothersome to the writers. Instead of setting up scenarios that might lead to the changes they want tptb do interviews and promotion to TELL us about the amazing growth. So you get some people going, oh yeah I see it, and some of us going, huh? I think the telling thing with this show is that for so many of these "special moments" they seem to feel the need to give them the hard sell. TBTP don't let those moments stand on their own, they go out before and after and tell people what they should feel or take from the episode. If you are really writing a quality program, and also showing not simply telling, do you really need to do this.Dodgy

I think he real problem is these writers don't know how to write a dramady. I consider M.A.S.H to be one of the best American comedy shows ever. The writers knew when to leave a dramatic moment alone and let you feel for the characters and what was happening. There is nothing wrong with crying during a comedy, to me it makes you feel like the characters are going through something "real". The fact that TBTB can't let a moment happen without a joke thrown in to negate any real feeling that was created is either lack of talent, laziness or stupidity.

Great example with M.A.S.H. I loved how this show was able to replace characters without missing a beat. The new characters had to earn their place and the characters already on the show did not just fawn over the new characters. Amy would never have been allowed to walk in and take over.

To me funny is SO CLOSE to sad. I love it when comedies leave an emotional moment as it is without filling it with ba-dum-tish. Very rare though.
When I think about what happened to these characters it's very much like what happened to my beloved DC Universe when they relaunched as the New 52. They've all been given a whimsy-ectomy.
This image may inspire a few Shenny fics. Look at Sheldon's face! This is the face of Vintage Sheldon screaming to get out.
