'Coolest on Campus' and 'Doubting the math'? It seems as though there was some mix up with scripts and they now have people in their thirties (and forties) acting out a story line from Nickelodeon or a Disney Show.

This is reading like a MIDDLE SCHOOLER's dream. Successful adults don't and shouldn't act like this.

They haven't allowed Sheldon to act like the 'Greatest mind of a generation' since he he joined with Amy.
I miss Homo Novus. Sad
For those of you who know Community, compare the way the writers handled Abed as opposed to Sheldon on BBT. Abed was exceptional and different too but they never reduced him in order to try and earn kudos for other characters. They showed his sensitivity and flaws but it wasn't to diminish him. BB is a real pecking order, it's so playground.

It's as though they have been gifted this amazing character by pure accident and they just keep twisting and hacking away at their prize. Sheldon is the most destroyed character on the show. Penny is second. The others are more or less intact or offered sympathy by the writers. Sheldon is like a piñata being bashed about over each seasons, slowing losing shape until one day he'll burst... build his death ray and kill them all.
We can only hope.
There's inconsistency... Because next week (or whatever they film idk...) this will be forgotten and Sheldon will be going on about something... And they'll be back to being annoyed with him... It's so annoying!

Abed stood out because of his uniqueness. They celebrated his differences and allowed that to be who he is. I loved they even got his father to see that in an episode.

But TBBTs writers seem hell bent on making Sheldon conform by taking away any bit that made outstanding. Theses people (the writers) seem to hate people with differences. Or successful people. Or attractive people. Or quirky people.

No wonder the show seems so toxic, its written by some hateful people.

May Sheldon have mercy on their souls. Big Grin
Community didn't make fun of people who were different like that (pretty much on the spectrum...) TBBT didn't at first but as it became obvious of what Sheldon was dealing with, their jokes seemed a lot meaner and I think tptb never wanted to handle Sheldon properly. It's easier to make fun of him vs have him be behind the jokes... He is the joke. And they couldn't keep that up if the reason for his ways and being was something real, so they have just made him mean, dumb and odd... They couldn't justify bullying someone who appeared to be autistic... So instead of stopping the bullying, they changed the character. I 100% believe this. I really do.

And you're right, it either shows that tptb are ignorant (clearly) or are just very mean...

Community never outright said it, but it was obvious and they embraced it. The show had its issues but they never made fun of the very unique and gifted person in the group... Like TBBT loves to do with Sheldon.

So he's not special anymore... He's just bat crap crazy.
After my initial reaction of despair and rage, I've calmed somewhat. I know this show is now marketed for people who don't like sarcastic, arrogant characters and prefer to see exceptional people be silly and fallible. They don't care about undercurrent. That's just how it is and the mainstream just yum it up! I like sarcastic, arrogant characters because it's fiction. I wouldn't tolerate them in my own life and would certainly never be one, it's all contained within comedy. I see them as symbolic. Sheldon symbolised the rebellion against coupledom and normality that we all feel at some point. That the world has the strangle hold on what is and what is not acceptable, and it can only function if the rebellous are taught the 'error of their ways'. As if the human race is that one dimensional! But that's mainstream. I work in marketing, in advertising, design. I know those rules. I just don't want them applied to my fantasy world.

THIS! YES!
The 'addiction' part may allow Jim something to get his teeth into. As long as he's light on the camp!

I think this will probably end up being Jims Emmy submission episode (they do seem to like him drunk or in this case high on caffeine) so hopefully he'll not ham it to death
