Yes Gripe, you were seeing a pretty close to Vintage Sheldon in those clips. It's not perfect, but what I'd consider "real" (just enough) growth of his character after 8 years.

But we mustn't celebrate cause it might jinx the rest of the episode (plus, it'll just hurt more when they go back to sexy toddler/dog Sheldon in the next episode)

Yes, the number of times we've thought we had that marvelous persnickety bastard back...Ach well.

I still say if we could have Vintage alien Sheldon, and some Sheldon/Penny interaction every episode, I wouldn't give a flying fornication about what they did with the rest of the show. Including their fantasy dream sequences. That's tomorrow for me/tonight for you chaps I think? Whether it's edited to a sliver, removed entirely, or in full uncowardly glory...
It was filmed, the audience cheered (hugely, good lord!), the actors had fun.
That's grand and unusual enough in itself.
If they panic and drop/cut the scene, that's a bit sad, but I reiterate, if they give us back alien Sheldon, I won't give a giant rat's...
After all - "His unique genius is our best hope for bringing peace to a vast and troubled galaxy."
