The problem is that there are a bunch of fans who have always seen TBBT as The Leonard Show, with Sheldon as a supporting character. These fans accepted Penny as long as she was loyal to Leonard and now, just like him, view her as his property because he has always wanted her, even when he was with others. They think this proves that he loves her. They don't understand the difference between love and obsession, which illustrates why many of these same fans are so in love with Amy. They don't particularly like Sheldon and Penny because they take attention away from Leonard and Amy. These are the same people who cheered when Fonzi took off the leather jacket, thought Rebecca was better for Sam than Diane, thought Riley was hotter than Angel or Spike. These people are champions of mediocrity and they can't understand an interesting, original character so they support and cheer for his neutering and believe that the best thing that can ever happen to Penny is Leonard. They want the characters to be as plain and boring as they are. These fans are stupid and deluded and unfortunately they will win. And the show that results from their desires being fulfilled will either go off the air quickly or be on the air forever.
