I think fans do idolize certain characters, it's part of that old duality, the heroes wore white, etc But a real character is like a real person, they have a wide ranging personality. In an article Sheldon is described as monstrous. And in that clip 'Jim interview' he talked of letting out the monster inside. I wonder if being given permission, as Sheldon, to express his darker side, has made him more aware of himself. I don't really think that Sheldon would have people sterilised, or exploding chips put in their heads. That's just his frustration at human stupidity. But he did want to flush a live bird down a toilet, not very pleasant! In the article, he also said that all the characters were individually annoying, but that they worked well together, and the show had become a twenty minute meme. Still love Sheldon!
