Yeah, I don't think Sheldor the Conquerer gets drunk (intentionally) or smacks people on the butt. He (original Sheldon) says some pretty condescending and dismissive things, but he doesn't openly, blatantly mock people, at least from what I can remember.
It's totally legit to like this scene and find it meaningful, (I don't) but I think Nutz is correct that it would've played-out much differently, had it taken place earlier on.
