So considering Sheldon only reached puberty at nineteen, father dead, moot. Also as Penny has been spiking his drinks, his mind's gone(imagine what would be said if Sheldon spiked Penny's drinks, although obviously not with alcohol). Leonard has ruined his career, twice. Sheldon might as well let go. He'll always get on with the fathers; what with his Texas roots, and intimate knowledge of football. The other guys can only dream of this. So I say enjoy it Sheldon, let go, and throw up on a few clowns!
By this time Sheldon is so damaged and changed that it doesn't have the impact of say having him do that scene with Penny's dad back when he still was Sheldor and a jealous Leonard looking on (since he's supposed to be the fake boyfriend of Penny and once again a parental figure is bonding with Sheldon instead of him)
“There are no scenes more fun to do, I feel like, than the ones between Sheldon and Penny. They are such a wonderful odd couple.” - Jim Parsons
