Buster Bloody Keaton

I've never seen this photograph before and I bloody LOVE it! First of all, is that a Parsonian profile or what? But what I REALLY love is how he's effortlessly traversing the boundary between masculine and feminine. Which is somewhat underscored for me by the black and white ensemble. He does it with such an admirable lack of self-consciousness too. He's totally unafraid to appear graceful and delicate.

Yes I suppose there's a comical effect being aimed for here, the contemplative gaze upon his daisied hand and the juxtaposition of the gauzy shawl with the stolid boots upon his feet. But it's a beautifully composed frame in its own right and the gender-muddling seems a bit ahead of its time.
OH PLEASE...

I presume you chaps have seen this one?
I've always felt that as a promo shot, it was an odd way to sell yourself to the wider, conventional American public...
I believe it's from 1927, in which case he was still in control of his films, and presumably didn't give a flying fornication what anybody thought...

Fucking splendid fellow...

I HAVE seen this before. It's such a punk thing to do, isn't it? Sorry but I can't find a better word for it.

Again, it's the comfortable mingling of the masculine and the feminine as well as the classical and the modern. AND the beautiful and the gruesome. Sawn off arms?! Yikes! I mean it's one thing for a statue to be missing its arms...

And look at that face! Exuding a sort of languid nonchalance at all the contradictions tightly wrapped up together.

Is the photographer known?

This is probably all I'd do with a time machine to be honest...It doesn't make a very exciting film plot, I must admit.
