MONTHLY VINTAGE EPISODE - JULY 2015

The Loobenfeld Decay
Originally aired March 24, 2008
Written by Chuck Lorre

"Leonard hears Penny singing poorly. When she asks them to come to a showcase Leonard lies and says that he and Sheldon have plans. Sheldon is uncomfortable with the lie which Leonard gives and so he comes up with a new complicated one.”

I don't think Kaley's voice was that bad myself. Big Grin

Penny is terribly off-key in this episode, but then in the Work song Nanocluster she has a lovely voice. First of many later inconsistencies, perhaps?

Might I posit that the ep might have been written before Kaley was cast?

I believe this episode was one of the "back 13" episodes produced, which is part of the group of episodes only written after a show has been successfully picked up by a network. Plus, it was written after a lengthy break due to the writers' strike. It is conceivable that the writers were still finding the characters at this point and weren't sure which direction to take with Penny. *shrugs*

This episode is funny. I liked that Sheldon is well aware that Leonard has characteristics of a violent sociopath -> lying without any response, but knows that Leonard will not kill him.

I like the comment about if cats could sing they'd hate it too, and you're right it can wait until morning.

I loved that Sheldon didn't think her feelings should matter because he didn't know they would or that it's social convention to lie to your friends about things they are bad. I also love the repeated jokes of the Knocks, and Sheldon not understanding people's feelings.

Also, totally loved Sheldon's replanning of the lie. It was great. It's even funnier since Penny wasn't even thinking about checking up on their lie because she didn't remember more than Simposium. I also love how Penny was just as bad at following Sheldon's lie as Sheldon was with Leonard's lie.

In hindsight, the funniest part of this episode is knowing that in the future, Sheldon tells Penny that her singing sucks.

I love that Sheldon was nice enough to make Leonard look better, by making him seem like a good friend. Although it's crappy that Leonard doesn't correct her...shows a part of him that comes out more later.

I totally love Leo, the drug addled cousin. Also, Sheldon to Toby "Just have fun with it" -> LOL
