You know how irritating it was for everyone when they all drove to Big Sur in Season 4 for the conference, and they got stuck in the "Love Car" with Howard and Bernadette being all schmoopy?
I feel like we've been stuck in the fucking Love Car for 4 years.
I had high hopes for Season 9, (and I've certainly been fascinated with ONE surreal scene mentioned already) after the drooping ratings of Season Amy Farrah Fowler, and I'll not despair YET, but three episodes in and it's been a solid wall of relationships all the way.
It doesn't matter that now one of the couples is (temporarily) broken up, it's still being stuck in a claustrophobic commercial vehicle where the only "entertainment" is couples either cooing or SHOUTING (or cheating or manipulating or...) and the destination has been plotted and broadcast well in advance, and there's no detours along the way, just straight down the highway to Mortgage City.
I got into this car under false pretenses. I was lured in by its bright paint-job, flash-speed-stripes and carload of bright, unusual INDIVIDUALS. And it was delightful for four years! It was the goddamn Magical Mystery Tour. Now it's just a beige van trundling to the retirement home. LET ME OUT GODDAMMIT!
This far along the road, there is only one way to fix this heteronormative conservative roadtrip, and that's to split all the couples up permanently. Like that car in "Malcolm".

Make the individuals strong IN THEMSELVES again. (and hey, maybe rob a bank. Like in Malcolm.)
Sheldon is so far from his Season 1-4 self that if he were a product you could sue the company for false advertising.
It would have been honourable if they'd left Sheldon out of the whole squalid and dull obsession mankind has with romance. Allowed ONE character to put intellect first. His passions first. Science first. It's a bloody insult to those who suffered for their work above all things. The people that Sheldon himself admired. Sure, let him have a fling, if you want to explore that side of his character, but don't let it become the FOCUS of his character!
They can alter the relentless plod to marriage, coitus, suburban mortgage and death (in whatever order), that they've put him on. They CAN. They're very clever.
But they WON'T.
Why, I don't know.
