I've also seen this elsewhere, same idea. Actually I don't know most of couples. I'd say Lois and Peter, work in a weird way. I think it's a valid point, I'm sure writers play with many ways of creating interest. Also next time someone mentions one of these mismatched couples on BB, we can smugly say,'you do know it's only a device!'.
