Like an old married couple
Hello again!

Its me. Your convinced fellow from Germany.

First I want to thank the members of the "Shenny-HQ" that you have so kindly and friendly accepted my first post at "Like an old married couple." Seven "Likes" and very nice comments.....I would not have expected that.

Once again, thank you very much.
(And once again, sorry for my bad English. This time it is determined even worse, because this post is more spontaneous than the first one- SORRY, SORRY, SORRY !!!
I report me back to write down what I think about the characters and their current handling last times.

At first I wanted to write two other posts.
One about my favourite "Shenny"-Episodes, and another about my reasons in general why this two would be perfect for each other.

But then I decided to write this statement first, and what I want to say about this show which was started so great:

It is SAD!!!

They transformed this former so innovative series into an bloody and cheap melodramatic soap opera.

At first a “few” words about Leonard.

Who has read my first post saw that I was trying to keep something sympathy for him, but after careful consideration, I have to revise.

Leonard is indeed not an honourable character.

He sabotaged Sheldons Pole-Expedition,
he broke his word to never touch Priya,
he made Penny drunk to have sex,
(only a few examples)
and now he has even „cheated“ Penny.

('Now tell me what the devil do you see in this weasel?'-Tyrone Power to Maureen O' Hara about her lover in 'Black Swan' (1942) )

When I see this all in relation....especially the last point…….begs the question of whether he really has so much feelings for Penny as he says.

As he was with Priya, he got a bad conscience at the possibility of cheating her, and then he cheats Penny and says nothing?
Okay, we can guess that he doesn't want to hurt her, but the mere fact, that he was cheating HER, raises the presumption, that Priya was him more important (in the human way) than Penny today.

He is impulsive and do not think about the feelings of others.

And because of that it is (in my eyes) not really to understand so much people like the “Lenny”.

I have read a little bit from their fans, and than I saw such arguments like:

“There are so much tension,”

or

“We like this dance between this two.”

And my confusion was even greater.

What for a “dance”?

There is no “dance” in my opinion.
They go from one crisis into the next.
They argue, they insult each other, they have sex….and than the whole thing starts again.
For me it is a primitive affair without human depth or warmth. Not funny and not romantic.

(Oh gosh. That I am writing about romance. My idols in the youth were ‘Skeletor’ ,‘Lord Vader, General Klythus…..and now I am sitting at my PC and writes about romance. I must be sick).

Why could not remain with the first topic?

With us in Germany the pilot-episode got the title:
“Penny und die Physiker”
“Penny and the physicists”

And I think it hit the concept on the nail. The former, good concept. The meeting of two worlds. To see best of all by Penny and Sheldon.

But what we had to seen than was the dismantling of this two characters.

At the first view Penny was the typical cliché-blonde, but after only a few episodes it was clear, that she was a strong person with habits, dreams and goals.

Since she is with Leonard her only job is it to forgive him his bad habits.

If she marries Leonard although she knows that he was disloyal to her, she loses every credibility.

If the writers do that, then they destroy the "Penny"-character completely.
They would make her to a stupid doll, a living plot-device, a human but mindless McGuffin with no real personality anymore.

I call this the “Star Wars”-Syndrome, because there is a strong similarity to “Queen Amidala” played by Natalie Portman.
In “Episode I” she was strong and self-conscious. She knew what she wanted and never gave up.
In “Episode II” that all was gone. The only purpose her character there only had, was that Anakin fell in love with her and in “Episode III” she was only a crying something and the dying mother. The perfect example like a former good character was ruined.
And the same I saw by Penny at “TBBT”.

And about Sheldon and his character:

Well, therefor I take a line from “That seventies Show” and replacing the word “Dad” to “Sheldon”.

“Is Sheldon was abducted by aliens and replaced by an identical love-clone?”

Any questions?

According to the spoilers Sheldon becomes a sort of Amys Terrier.

Ooohhhhh god!!!

Writers, my wishes for the next seasons are:

1.:
-Working more with the two best characters which were originally the reason for the popularity of the show. Give them more scenes together as one……please give them back their dignity, (because whit this two to do nothing, is like the location of a gold mine to ignore…..to let seep away an oil-source) ….and give them a chance to become a couple. Not only because they would be the most perfect pair (opposites attract) but also (even if you do not want to believe it) because they are the heart and the soul of the series……..(and because that they are having a real relationship. We could see how it has grown during the years-how they has learned and started to respect and like each other. This authorisation has none of the canon-pairs)

2.:
-Come back to the nerdy humor of the early seasons ( of the episodes with “M.O.N.T.E-the robot”, the “Time-Machine” or the “Barbarian-Simulation”) and lay down this “soap-opera”-“relationship”-lay down your dreams”-get married is the only thing”-“we are like sibling”-nonsense of the last ones.

Especially the last point..

Penny and Sheldon....... . Siblings???

Well……..

That is………

Nrrrrrffffff!!!

Sorry, but that is a stuff about I can not calm down.

That is as if there is an author who is writing a sequel to "King Kong" where he wants to explain, that the giant King-Gorilla had not kidnapped the blonde beautiful woman because he was in love with her, but only want a nice toy for his son. (You know, "Son of Kong")

(Yes, yes I know. It is a strange comparison, but it came so in my head).

If the writers wants to know how to write a sibling-relationship right, than look at Christina Apllegate and David Faustino in “Married with children”. THAT was the dynamic of brother and sister with no space to interpret something else or more.

But Penny and Sheldon?

NO!

Sorry writers! Target missed!

By the way, this whole concept to tell who will be endgame……..
I cant understand this.

Of course, every genre have its own laws.

At the adventure-genre for example the law is: “The way is the destination.”

It does not really matter.

Where you at Spielbergs classic adventure-movie “Raiders” really interested in who gets the lost arc?
Or the green diamond at “Romancing the stone”
Or if Dirk Pitt really finds the ship from the civil-war in “Sahara”?
No. In this genre it is the search, the hunt, the quest who is important. Then end is not so heavy.

At a TV-series (especially by a sitcom) it is another thing.
Here rules the law: “How will it end?”

And when the producers tell this already years before….well in my eyes it is a real self-killer. They make their own show to a simple countdown and that is not clever or exciting.

At last two questions of which it would be nice if someone could answer me.

At first:
What exactly is the meaning of “Jump the shark?”

I have read it many times, but still do not know really what it means.

Can you tell me please?

And second:
What is your opinion about this rumour that Penny is related to some of the nerds? Do you think that is true, or is it really only a rumour or a hoax?

I think it would be the stupidest idea with which the writers could come. The summit of nonsense.
The last thing to which I would wait then, is that Penny said:”

“Sorry, in the last eight years I have forgotten to mention that I all my family-members call sweetie.”

(What this should become? The “Luke” an “Leia” of comedy?)

What is your opinion?

I hope my second post was to long or to bad.

Greetings form Germany!

I’ll be back ( Ähh, no. Sorry! That’s another franchise)

I am by your side, fellow Shenny-Shippers!

Hold up the torch and do not give up the hope!!!

P.S. to the writers: THEY ARE NOT LIKE SIBLINGS!!!
