Why are super heroes so popular. Reminds us of ancient gods, making physically weak feel strong, and powerless more powerful, (it's something I think about). The first comic featuring a superhero, was(as far as I can tell), a victorian penny dreadful. He started as a villian. 'The folkloric Spring Heeled Jack came to be featured in a series of Penny Dreadfuls, first as a villain, then as a crime-fighter with a disguise, secret lair, and gadgets, hallmarks of superheroes.' But they become particularly popular when society as a whole feels anxious; social, economic, power status changes.
