I'm thinking of giving it a go because the amount of gushing HAS to be for a reason... Has anyone here seen it? It doesn't seem like something I'd like, but it's about the characters. If I'll like the characters and care about them, I'll like the show. Characters come first.

It's definitely a must watch. The characters are great, and every episode is more like a movie. Pretty epic. I advise you to not read the books so you can enjoy the show unspoiled.
