The Awakening is very much in that vein, Louise. Good performances, and it kept me guessing where the story was going.

The Changeling with George C. Scott has always creeped me the hell out. I haven't seen it in years, but to this day there are scenes seared into my brain.

Burnt Offerings is pure camp. It's got Karen Black in all her cross-eyed glory. And Bette Davis! And Oliver Reed! It's creepy and atmospheric but at the same time you'll find yourself tittering at the overripe performances.
OH PLEASE...

'The Haunting' is a fav of mine. The 1963 version with Julie Harris and Claire Bloom. Lots of atmosphere. Skip the 1999 version. Just absolutely dumb. People int he theater were actually groaning at the plot twist at the end.
Let's go exploring!

I don't know if 'The Prestige' counts. It's not horror, precisely, but there's definite offbeat creepiness going on. ( It has David Bowie as Nikola Tesla, which is several levels of weird as is.)
