I watched 'The Normal Heart' tonight and I thought all the performances were outstanding... except Jim's. 
I was a little disappointed in his performance, sadly. The character Billy was very camp but in my opinion, Jim failed to add warmth to him. He was too icy and there was just something missing, I think he was simply outclassed by the other actors.
This makes me think that Sheldon S1-3 may just be his finest hour. His deadpan performance of early Sheldon, is the best thing he's ever done as far as I'm concerned. Unfortunately The Normal Heart didn't change my view on that. Not yet anyway.
