Someone (god knows who, and I no longer care) is trying to show Sheldon's "human", by giving him flaws, self-doubt, and diminishing his mind and independence.
The problem is (if that weren't enough) it's also diminishing his character.
And we always knew he was human. This whole "Sheldon was a robot/Pinocchio, and now he's a real boy!" malarkey is very odd. If anything he's gone from a real boy to a mawkish caricature of one.
He was sensitive, eccentric and brilliant, now he's a luridly-painted buffoon, wholly dependent on others. Giving him the odd, remarkable Vintage-Sheldon line isn't enough to mitigate the (as Space said) character assassination of the last few years...
