Sheldon goes from chastising Leonard to trying to comfort him with Cooper factoids to gloating about his victory.


I miss these kinds of scenes.

I love re-thinking the characters. I watched Kingdom of Heaven last night. And it struck me how Sheldon would make a great knight. Check out first pic, he has the physique and nobility, and in second aggression! He also has a moral code, and righteousness. Go forth and conquor, Sheldor, but do it fairly!

I've been listening to "The Sign of the Four" on audiobook, and I had a thought. Do you think this quote applies to Vintage Sheldon?

"My mind rebels at stagnation. Give me problems, give me work, give me the most abstruse cryptogram, or the most intricate analysis, and I am in my own proper atmosphere. But I abhor the dull routine of existence. I crave for mental exaltation."

I'm not sure he "abhors the dull routine of existence", since he has routines of his own making that he relies on, and he enjoys a lot of simple activities and simple foods and such. But...what do you think? Does Vintage Sheldon "crave for mental exaltation"?

Oh, lord, yes. And Vintage Sheldon would have been a fan of Original Holmes, and probably been highly sniffy about the 'modern' versions. ('Elementary' would give him an aneurysm.) Also -

“I don't understand your fascination with this version of Holmes.” Sheldon grumbles. Penny grins at him.

“Let's see...tall, thin, pale, oddly sexy, madly brilliant and really bad at getting on with normal people?”

A pause.

“Oh.” Another, more thoughtful, pause. “...Penny, do you think I should get a new winter coat?”

(edit: I think his routines are/were a control mechanism, rather than a full-blown phobia. He self-soothed with them. The regression into childish assholery looks far more like a nervous breakdown of some kind.)

(I realise I said something else that could be mis-interpreted). I think there is a culture(in the West), that believes what people need is a soothing programme/sitcom(we had things like 'The Good Life' here!). But a thought provoking, challenging programme/film makes me feel more alive. So I think Sheldon does thrive on 'mental exaltation'. Sometimes he has those moments of wonder for anything from obtuse concepts, beautiful maths, or the inherent stupidity of humans. From my own experience; I believe that once I have order around me, nothing domestic to interfere, I can think about more important ideas(actually on an obscure forum).

I think that Bev Hofstadter is a better Holmes(see clip>Wishful Thinking-post 158). She reads the signs; the out of order lift, the dust on the tape and notice, the amount of mail boxes, and deduces Delusion of Functionality! She also understands Penny's ambitions, and life, based on her relationship with her father. Maybe that's why Sheldon admires her. When Sheldon tried the same, when Leonard was on phone to his mother, he came up with 'colonoscopy'(get over it CL!!!!)
