Noteworthy Duos

Born of a festering irritation at the fact that I couldn’t restrain myself and so consequently watched all the Sherlock episodes over a period of days rather than spacing them out over a year, or at least a few months, or EVEN A GODDAMN WEEK, I have created this thread to celebrate our favourite Duos in literature, film and television.

My personal preferred combination is the acerbic idealist or intellect coupled with the loyal, humble, terrier of a character. High-minded emotional-obliviousness vs salt-of-the-earth sensitivity. Reason vs Intuition etc. Utter God-King super-villain gobshitery vs long-suffering humanitarian minion would be another way of putting it. You get the gist.
I think the trope is Cloud Cuckoolander and his Minder.

So NOT Leonard, maybe. Another loyal, steadfast, intuitive “prole” who balances out his intellect with emotion, and counters his ego….Penny, maybe.

I don't think you could call Troy and Abed Cloud Cuckoolander and his minder... more like Cloudcuckoolander shaman-boy and his lovably dim buddy.

I also consider Dean Pelton and Jeff a nice pairing, despite it being extremely one-sided. I ship the hell out of it though.

Oh come on guys, give us a chance! From that limited genre 'Bogart and Bacall war years classics', I thought 'To Have And Have Not' was superior. There's an interesting relationship between Bogart's character and his drunk mate.(niche or what!). But it then becomes a virtual menage a trois when Bacall character arrives. I'm starting to realise how well used this trope is in literature, and on screen.
