The reason Sheldon never mentioned Tam is because he didn't have a friend called Tam as a child. He had no friends. Thats the character... but they are tying in the sequel. Annoying!

Not really surprising that he can picture his life without Leonard, but not Penny.

And by extension WITHOUT AMY. Without Leonard, he would never have met Howard and Raj, who in turn blackmailed him to go on a blind date where he met her. Funny how Sheldon didn’t realise this when he did his imaginary switchamaroo!
