I think that's true, a man and a woman who are friends, are closer than romantic couples can be. They can talk about things they couldn't with partner, ask personal advice, and support each other. Also romantic couples enter a whole minefield which is culturally specific, and even dependant upon what they witnessed of their parents relationships.
